Since joining Watsons Building Services as an Accounts Administrator in November 2021, Sarah Metcalf has progressed to Finance Manager and led major changes to the company’s business systems. We caught up with Sarah recently to discuss her professional development and the people who have supported her along the way.

“From day one, the team and leadership truly believed in my potential,” Sarah said. “Over the last few years, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to receive continuous investment in my development.”

That investment has included courses in Advanced Excel, First Aid and Mental Health at Work, alongside support for her CIMA Management Accountancy qualification. Together, these opportunities have helped Sarah develop her technical knowledge and broader workplace skills as her responsibilities have grown.

Alongside formal training, Sarah credits the guidance of Watsons’ former Finance Director and current Directors as an important part of her progression to Finance Manager.

Her development has also brought opportunities to put those skills into practice. Most recently, Sarah led the migration and implementation of both Watsons’ core accounting software and job management platforms, taking responsibility for changes to systems used across the business.
