New Waste Management Building for North Yorkshire Council
We’re proud to have played a key role in delivering renewable energy solutions to North Yorkshire Council’s Waste Management Building in Skipton. This flagship project, driving the shift to renewables in North Yorkshire, is an example of how local authorities can move away from a reliance on gas and embrace net-zero technology.
Completed in 2022, this state-of-the-art facility combines modern office and welfare spaces with a vehicle maintenance workshop, all designed for maximum energy efficiency and sustainability.
Project Scope
The building integrates a suite of renewable systems, including:
- Solar PV panels with battery storage: Providing on-site renewable electricity and reducing reliance on the grid.
- Air source heat pumps: Delivering energy-efficient heating without fossil fuels.
- Rainwater harvesting: Reducing mains water demand and supporting sustainable resource use.
- Energy-recovery ventilation systems: Optimising indoor air quality while capturing and reusing heat energy.
- Motion-detecting lighting with daylight dimming: Cutting unnecessary energy use.
- EV charging points: Enabling the transition to electric fleet and staff vehicles.
Our team designed, installed, and commissioned a range of energy, heating, and ventilation systems, ensuring seamless integration with the site’s other low-carbon technologies and infrastructure. This fully integrated approach means the facility can operate year-round on renewable power, helping North Yorkshire Council reduce running costs, cut carbon emissions, and progress towards its net-zero goals.
